What I Got At The Restore Tuesday +1
Published 7-26-24
I was out in the Annex putting things away and decided to talk about them a little bit before I did.
This was all stuff that I picked up at the Restore on Tuesday July 24th. Plus a nice big monkey wrench that will be useful with the big tractor bolts.
I picked up an old style adjustable spanner. The yellow paint kept it from rusting too much.
A set of router bits was a welcome addition to the tool box. I passed over a set of Forstner bits just so I wouldn't have 4 complete sets. 😁😎
There was a 6" 90 deg. elbow for the woodstove stack. Not needed this year but they go bad regularly.
A couple casters rounded out the grouping. I intend to have the wood working bench movable so they should make that possible.
If you like it here you might like to visit some friends.

    Some fun stuff 👍 I use mediocre Chinese carbide router bits in sets like that that range 10 to 20 dollars a set. That work just fine and can't be beat for the price. Once they get dull I sometimes replace it with a diablo quality one if I use it enough. Ussaly just solimple roundovers nothing fancy heck the ryobi battery trim router was bought for under 40 dollars 😆. Quality for a purpose is important to learn so you don't spend drastically too much for such a simple job. Every ford wrench I see is bent it's because of hammering of course since it's soft ductile metal. If I find a perfect one maybe I'll pick one up.

    I like the set of router bits and the yellow wrench. A few years ago I bought a nice Craftsman router and table for $20, but it didnt come with any bits. You got a nice selection for $10. I dont have as good a selection, but I keep looking. The yellow wrench looks like an older automotive wrench. It is better quality than many of those vintage auto wrenches. For $3, it was a good buy these days.

      That is so true. I make things right because I make them. Like you say inspectors usually just walk through and sign off. I had MIOSHA & EPA inspections frequently. Each inspector had a thing they looked for. Switch plates for one guy. Lights for another. Door latches for another. Dad always said those that can do. Those that can't become inspectors. It was true in Coldwater. The inspector when I was still in the business with Dad, walked in with the signed tag, collected $50.00 and left.

    Thoes tools that hold there value in memories are some of the best! I wish I got to keep more of my grandpa's tools myself but I hold solice knowing the people why were at the sale were neighbors and valued thoes old tools as much as he did. I actually never have repaired a fishtape before. I knew how they worked inside because a few have blown up before but never has been cost effective to do so. I'm so glad that works still and if it's any constellation at times we have dunked the tapes in machine oil to de rust them. These days as time goes on they use fiberglass then now a new polymer silcone blend. They are much easier to work with as such things tend to be but will never be as strong as that spring steel tape. I've had to find blockages in many conduit before and it's been a steel fish tape someone just cut off and left for thr next person to deal with. Don't be that person 😆 😤. Next time you can fill up the casing with evaprorust let it sit then compressed air it all out then oil it up if you don't feel like taking it apart. Keep up the good work 👏

    • @OldSneelock
      @OldSneelock 4 дні тому

      Too bad someone breaks the tape and leaves it. Just cut the conduit and pull out the broken piece. Coupling, junction box, pull box, or a union and you are back in business.

      @OldSneelock 5 днів тому

      If Joe wants to come and help I will welcome him. If I could hire an apprentice I would. Unfortunately this isn't a money making business. I have managed to create some remunerative processes that support the budget needed to continue creating for the channel. I don't create a marketable physical item that could be sold at a profit. As a kid I had friends and neighbors who hung out at my Dad's workshop in the barn behind the house. Since the goal was never to make money we helped our friends and neighbors with a weld if needed, a pipe threaded, the wheel on a bicycle tightened or a flat fixed. There was usually one or more people working on something else to help lift an item or offer advise on a problem. I am hoping to have a similar situation here. God willing I will have an interest developed in the community.

  • @MattHmm-rq6dn
    @MattHmm-rq6dn 6 днів тому

    You conduit! 😆 actually you did. I hate AFI with a passion we lived so long without it now it's the new standard. It will trip on anything and it's super frustrating. We use diablo brand hole saws for a reason it's just a quick release to pull the hole saw off the bit to clear the plug super lazy. The other nice thing is there 50% longer than most holesaws so you can avoid extensions and pesky stuff like that. I'm glad you'll have a outside light never underestimate how much of a detourant it can be. Make sure to get something obnoxiously bright 🌞 so you notice it from your room. I personally always run a extra wire myself better to have it than not. It's nice to have a 3way return or additional hot for a fanlight combo. Loved seeing the teather working well just hanging out of the way while you were handling other tasks. Great work take it slow and easy!

    • @OldSneelock
      @OldSneelock 5 днів тому

      The AFI is a mandated install. I also had an instance where it could have been a big help. In the basement here we were using short zip cord extention to run a light next to the bed in Apt B. The water softner drain overflowed and soaked the carpet the cord was laying on. Salt water conducts so the salt water shorted out the plug and if the floor hadn't been wet would have set the house afire. The AFI breaker would have tripped. If I were doing this for a living I would be using Diablo hole saws. I have a 7 1/4" Diablo on the Skil worm drive saw. I have cut multiple nails and it still is sharp. Most of my tools are from flea markets and garage sales. I seldom buy new and if I do I get the best available. Buy once cry once. At the same time I show how to sharpen and reuse old tools often thought of as unusable. It works out for all of us. The 800 watt LED dusk to dawn yard light will be helpful in a lot of ways. I have to keep in mind that I don't want to annoy the neighbors. When the school put up an addtion they added perimiter lighting on the walls. It was so bright my neighbors complained and the school put in smaller bulbs. I didn't mind. I could read a newspaper, if I had one, in the tractor shed with the tent flap down. While wearing sunglasses. 😀😎 An extra wire will allow for expanding if needed. I can only have 8 duplex recepts on a breaker. I'm splitting up the power to the accessory extention cord reel and the door opener to keep from crossing the line. I have some machines that I will be running off buss drops so they can be mobile. Just drop the line from the ceiling and power up the horizontal band saw, a portable grinder, etc so I won't be tripping over cords. Yes the tether has been a big improvement in using the battery op tools. Come to think of it I used the cord on the 110 v tools as a kind of tether. 😀😎 A lot harder to use because it involved tying an untying the cord all the time.

      I have been regretting my decision to not buy one of the miling machines I was disposing of at Autotech. We were closing out a warehouse packed with machinery and I sold three of them to the community. It didn't seem right to take one for myself so I didn't. Was it the best move? Yes in the long run. I didn't have to deal with any guilt or people thinking I was unethical. This project was a display of how most things can be done with hand tools. It just takes more time and attention to detail. Mount Rushmore was carved with hand held jack hammers. 😀😎

    I agree, that's a lot of work in this kind of heat and humidity. Remember, as they say, it's not the heat it's the humidity...well that's been my experience. Thanks for taking the time to make videos and post them. Thumbs up.

      The clean fan has been a lot of help in the heat. A bit noisy but I think I have a solution for that.

      The clean fan has been a big help. Too noisy but I might have a fix for that. 😀😎
